Cool Running: Distribution Efficiency: Part 2

Modern Ice Equipment & Supply

In preparation for the upcoming summer season, hear from one of Modern Ice’s Strategic Partners, Cool Running Software. Founder Tony Dickson describes how Cool Running & IceQ can help your ice business run effectively to improve your ice distribution efficiency!
Cool Running was founded by Tony Dickson, created and successfully used in his very own Ice Business, Olmsted Ice in Cleveland, Ohio. The experience Tony has as an Ice Man over the past 30 years allowed him to develop this software from collaboration between modern web developers and experienced icemen to create a product made for the way an Iceman likes to do business!

Expand Your Delivery Radius while Providing the Same Top-Quality Service

Example: At Olmsted Ice, delivery radius was doubled

Less Trips for Your Drivers

  • With an increased amount of ice delivered per stop, drivers can empty the truck sooner.
  • Drivers often get frustrated by going to locations that do not need ice
    • In the offseason: Rather than hitting multiple stops to try and move ice, the driver can empty their truck and cut out on the non-delivery and refusals.
    • During the on season: Truck gets empty sooner and can possibly do a reload for more stops in a delivery shift.

Competitive Advantage

Having a sensor on a box is a great sales tool!

  • Telling a customer, you will have constant vision of their location.
  • Less need for them to call the ice company.
  • Less/No out of stocks
  • Ask them, “Does your current ice company use this kind of technology?”
  • Show them sensors on your phone and the data you’re provided.

Greater Inventory Accuracy at the Merchandiser Level

“There is no way this place is out of ice.”

  • Having a sensor keeps the customer honest on what they really have on site.
  • In the offseason: For those customers who don’t fill during the cold weather and are almost out of ice:
    • Example: Call the customer and ask, “I know you’re at 10%, if I send a truck will you fill it?”
      • No? Ok. I will call when it is empty
      • Yes? Ok, then note the approval for a driver and make the stop to fill
  • During the on season: A customer who calls up and says they have “not one bag left.”
    • A quick look, and the Iceman can see if they truly need a fill.
    • Note the call, and route based on the sensor reading.
    • They may only be out of the “Big Bag.”
