VW ICE: Expanding to Maximize Production
Hear from Robert & Jack at VW Ice about how their partnership with Modern Ice allowed their vision of expanding their plant to come alive!
In the beginning they started with a 3200 square foot cinder block building trying to carve out any kind of space just to have a compressor room or new place to store ice. They needed more space to maximize their production.
The relationship established with VW Ice and Modern Ice was collaborative and innovative. Jack and Robert had an idea and Modern helped make it come alive and expanded their plant to 200 tons of production. Modern continues to support VW Ice with parts, supplies, bags, and maintenance.
Frank's Ice: New Plant to Facilitate Growth
Frank’s Ice was a growing ice business and a co-packer for another large ice company. They were relying on the large ice company to supplement their own production. As their needs continued to grow, Frank’s Ice decided to increase their production and storage and move inland to mitigate hurricane issues.
Philip Brasher met with Frank’s Ice to learn more about their business and the project requirements. Their goal was to find an experienced company to manage the project from beginning to end. Modern Ice provided sample drawings, product recommendations, and information based on the client’s requirements and goals. Additional meetings were conducted with the client, general contractor, civil engineer, and Modern Ice’s engineering team to outline the full scope of the project.
Frank’s Ice chose Modern Ice to design and build their new plant based on information they had received from other ice companies and the exploratory process Modern Ice went through to learn about their business, challenges, and desired outcomes.
Modern Ice met and exceeded the expectations of Frank’s Ice with this project. Modern Ice managed the project from engineering, design, and layout to installation and training. Modern Ice continues to provide support to the needs of Frank’s ice.
U.S. Ice: Listening to the Customer's Voice
Like many ice businesses, Detroit-based U.S. Ice is family-owned and operated. When they realized it was time to modernize and automate their plant, owners Saad and Jacob Abbo turned to Modern Ice for their expert advice and guidance.
The first step to any successful collaboration is listening to the customer, so we took the time to see and hear from Saad and Jacob exactly what they hoped to achieve. Despite the facility’s serious space limitations, we found ways to help them reach all their redesign goals.
Today, the owners are thrilled with the plant’s upgrades. “Modern Ice was there. They did exactly what they said they would do. No problems.” says Saad. Adds Jacob with a smile: “Robots never call in sick, never take bathroom breaks, they always run.”
