Leer Merchandisers
Daily merchandiser maintenance
Condenser & Compressor Checks
- Keep condenser fan shroud in good shape by allowing it to be pulled around the condenser rather than through
- Check for proper airflow through the compressor cover and make sure there is nothing restricting the airflow
- Clean condenser coil with compressed air, vacuum, wet cloth or spray mist bottle
- Keep Louvered or grill end of compressor cover within 1/2" of the condenser coil
- Check Louvers on the compressor cover ends and if their is damage it will need to be repaired
- Clean Auto Defrost Evaporator Coil and periodically check for dirt build up
- Oil Condenser Fan Motor: Remove the rear housing from the fan motor or drill a hole through the rear housing and apply a small amount of oil on the felt "O" ring
Checking for Frost
- Check for frost back onto the suction line service valve
- If there is frost that could indicate liquid refrigerant is entering the compressor, causing damage
- Causes for frost include: Refrigerant overcharge, Failed heat exchange, Poor heat transfer in the evaporator
- Check for frost buildup on the evaporator; do NOT turn the thermostat colder, that will make it worse
- What to do instead: Unplug merchandiser, open the door, and let it frost to melt out
- Unplug merchandiser and allow frost to partially melt, then lightly tap the interior with a rubber hammer to dislodge frost
- Do NOT use sharp materials, it can cause unrepairable damage to the merchandiser
Other Tips & Tricks
- Check the door gasket seal periodically
- Avoid blocking off the thermostat sensor with bags of ice or with ice buildup
- Some air space should be left around the merchandisers: typically 3"-4" to allow for air flow
- Clean the exterior periodically
- Check insulating on wiring periodically: the insulation will dry out over time from the moisture, heat, and age. Any cracks should be repaired
- Do NOT use extension cords with ice merchandisers
- Periodic maintenance of upright door hardware: Spray a light coating of penetrating oil on the spring load cartridges
